Thank you so much to @penguinbooksya@penguinbookssouthafrica for the #gifted copy in exchange for an honest review ❤️

I haven't picked up a thriller in quite a while, so I really missed it! 🤩 The further I got into this book, the harder it was to put it down. I stayed up way too late to finish this, because towards the end it became so suspenseful and I just had to know what happens.
The Dare is a gripping psychological thriller in which we follow our main protagonist, Lizzie, who lives with her General Practitioner fiancé, Ross. Lizzie suffers from epilepsy, but has been able to manage her condition quite well in recent years.
Twelve years ago, thirteen year old Lizzie and Alice, her best friend, got into an argument and shortly afterwards, Alice was dead. Lizzie is unable to remember what happened as she had an epileptic seizure when it happened and only regained consciousness afterwards and usually she can’t remember anything that happens surrounding the time of her seizures.
Alice's family and friends seem to suspect that Lizzie had something to do with her death, but Lizzie is sure she would never have hurt Alice, and it must have been an accident. Alice’s sister and friends make Lizzie's life at school unbearable by making it obvious that they think she is guilty of killing Alice.
Now, over a decade after the tragic death of her best friend, Lizzie is finally ready to move on with her life and her life is starting to fall in place, but it seems like her past is coming back to haunt her and it seems like everyone has been keeping secrets...
The story switches between the present and events that took place 12 years ago. As you read, you can slowly start to put the puzzle pieces together of what had happened that day and what lead to it.
When I started the book, I did have some suspicions of how it might end, but the twists and turns definitely took me by surprise and there were so many plot twists I had not expected at all. The ending was also completely unexpected and shocking.
